Tired of hitting the wall with the quality of your projection?

Use a proper projection screen in stead of a white wall. Here's why:

  1. A white wall can not reflect light in the way a projection screen can. This means the image is not as bright on a white wall, compared to the image on a projection screen. If less light is reflected, the image might be dull, in stead of full of colour.
  2. The viewing angle of a wall is more limited, which means people sitting to the sides of the projected image do not have the same image quality as those sitting in the center.
  3. Unless you paint black borders on your wall, you will not be able to nicely "frame" the image with the projection screen's black borders . The black borders increase the perceived image brightness.
  4. A wall is rarely flat and often has a pattern. In bright scenes, these patterns will interfere with the actual projection, creating an overlap of structure and projected image. If this happens, what you will actually see is not only the movie, but the wall surface as well. If you look at an image with a car in it, the paint of the car would look rough and patterned, rather than smooth.
  5. With a white wall, you'll miss out on the WOW factor and that cinema feeling. Rolling out a screen, whether electrically or just by hand, really sets the mood. You see the screen come down and feel the excitement rising. You won't really get that feeling from just flicking a switch and projecting onto a cold wall. Having a true projection screen really adds a WOW-factor to your room, which will surely impress friends and family. We all have walls, but a cinematic size screen, now that's something different.

In short, the white wall will give you an image, but if you want to get the most from your projector, invest in a decent projection screen. A good projection screen reflects the way you feel about your home cinema and as far as the projection quality is concerned, the difference will be visible!
